    Korean 30 round?

Question for the hive: I know the Korean 15 round mags work as well as the USGI ones, but has anyone had any experience with the Korean "UU" 30 rounders? I picked some up during Comiefornia "Freedom Week" but haven't tried them. What luck have you had with them. GI ones are stupid expensive ($70 and up). I have a dozen USGI 15s and four GI 30s (with new USGI springs I picked up from Chestnut Ridge Supply a few years back). but wanted a couple more 30s just to have on hand.

When using my carbine as a Home defensive Carbine, I usually have a GI 15 or 30 in the weapon, and a Type I pouch on the stock with 2x 15s. That's how I carried it as a Patrol Carbine when I was an LEO.

Bill ricca states they were commercially made in South Korea starting in about 2008. I don't personally own any of the 30 rounders marked UU, but from the various threads I have read about them, about 80% seem to be happy with them reliability wise

Out of dozens of reports on them I have seen or heard, only one reported he did not like them. The original reports were they were made for the South Korean government for their own carbines which were the secondary weapons they had at the time. Now these are surplus to their needs so the company who made them has sold them ever since. Rated as good as the USGI magazines. Just a little bit lighter in weight.

My feeling is that while usable, a well built 30 round magazine is not as good as two 15 round original (with good springs) magazines. My issues are:

The weapon was never upgraded from a semi auto to an auto except by changing trigger components. It is rare to hear of M2 Carbine stories that did not end with m16's.

It needs a different mag catch.

The 30 round is too long and makes a nice easy to use weapon more cumbersome.

30's have a history of cheap imitations and good ones are like gold.

What does a 30 have over a 15 in the gun, plus 30 in two mags in the pouch on the stock?

If I needed this much firepower to protect myself, I would move.

That said, if my nice neighborhood became the zombie (neighbors who want your stuff) apocalypse, I would have everything ready for bear, 5's , 10's, 15's and 30's.

    Stay safe.

    Dave

[QUOTE=I have used the UU stamped KCI mags , they are as close to GI in fit and function as you can buy , the locking nubs a just a hair smaller than a GI hardback , and I donít think they are hardened , but for the price , you canít beat them.i ;474722]Question for the hive: I know the Korean 15 round mags work as well as the USGI ones, but has anyone had any experience with the Korean "UU" 30 rounders? pouch with 2-15's and a 30 inserted adds more weight than I want to swing around.

The 30 round magazines work fine with both types of mag catches. The earlier type just is a bit wobbly. Probably an issue if it were an M2.
