That is the 50 million dollar question. The last breed in the pack is how it used to be known.........so to capture one would IMHO be in the £500 pound mark, but I'll leave it to someone who perhaps has bought one recently. All I can say is, they are as rare as rocking horse poo!
My adage has always been "If you like it, and it shoots well, go for it" the sheer provenance will be the attraction!

Navy arms had a number of L59A@s when they imported the batch of L42 and L39 7.62mm rifles. I included two L59s in the group I purchased. They were in rough shape but they were there and of interest and I got the best that were there. The Manager told me that while they had sold a few, the bulk was purchased by a military academy for drill.

Didn't find the L59 on the site mentioned, but die see lot's of very sad deactivated firearms. The Mauser C96 for example; what a waste!

In the UK it falls between the licencing gaps, I would say "deactivated by other means" Licencing probably wouldn't agree.

The trouble is, obviously it can't be proofed for sale, so an RFD can't sell it on, also as a non operational firearm, it can't be a Sec 1 gun, as it's a non functional firearm, i.e incapable of discharging a fart!

Question is, what the hell is it classified as?

The only clear cut legal UK route for the L59A1 is deactivation unfortunately....

I seem to remember (many moons ago) a (UK) collector had an L59 and the Police took it off him as an illegally owner firearm (no deactivated correctly).
Long story short :
As the Military person who had overseen the L59 programme Peter Laidler was called into court as a 'Expert Witness', PL convinced the court it was "more deactivated" than the Deact laws required and the collector got his 'gun' back.

I discussed with PL the 'Skeleton' training rifles which would appear to fall into the same bracket, for the ones I bought from an auction, the Auction house had checked with the three surrounding Police Forces and all had said it was a 'non firearm' and did not need to go onto an FAC.

Peter did offer to act as a 'Expert Witness' should I ever be 'picked up' having them and taken to court.
