7MM Mauser load
Have a 1893 Spanish Mauser and it shoots the 7mm 160gr round nose load very good . I decided to try a 175gr soft point bullet and had heard they usually don't like them and so far I agree . I use H4895 most of the time but trying IMR4895 for now . Anyone have any luck using a spitzer type bullet . With IMR4895 using 34.0 which is the minimum load , can't remember the fps but will start working up more test loads going up .

I use 140 grs FMJBT. But none of those powders...
They work well.
If you use Vihtavuori, I might go check the loads with N140 and N150.
Tomorrow I’ll be home and could check.

Ovidio thanks . Least you had good results . Just going by what I could find it was saying a heavy , long round nose was best and I was able to find some pulled bullets in the 160gr range and really liked the results after finding the sweet spot . But hadn't found anyone saying they got good results with a spitzer . And before I read that I had ordered a box to try and with the powder situation being that it's hard to find any right now around here hate having to go thru a lot of powder doing test loads . I have used H4895 for years and like it for all my guns but had to settle for the IMR4895 because was only thing on the shelf at the store . Got plenty of black powder and smokeless pistol powders but slipped and didn't stock up on my rifle powder before this covid stuff messed things up .

Jump on GunBroker and look up a seller called BangBang4U https://www.gunbroker.com/All/search?IncludeSellers=275582 he can get you just about any powder you want and really good prices. His name is Alan. I've bought a lot from him.

These old rifles were built for long heavy bullets. It might be a good idea to focus on them and later trying other bullet weights and shapes.

Maybe we’re also talking different barrels.
I shoot a Brazilian
1908. She likes spitzer very much.
But I never tried round nose 160.
Maybe she’d like them even better.
I’ll see if I can find any.

I was wanting to test a few different bullets to find the best one and maybe get a bullet mold . I agree the long round nose bullet has worked the best but got that box of bullets and would like to at least shoot them out till gone . But don't want to just to make noise would like to get some accuracy from them . I know some people who shoot 7x57 with a spitzer with good results but of course guns varies . Going to make some test loads with larger charges and see if does better . The low loads were all over the place , maybe it needs for pop to it to tighten them up .

I have had great luck buying 7mm Military surplus salvage ammo and harvesting the bullets. Last time I bought mine it was .06 cents a round. I just checked and its .11 cents. Still a good deal.
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/881562343 if you really want round nose you can call them and see if they have any left. I might have some as well; I'll take a look.

One more thing someone pointed out that the 91 , 93 , 95 Mausers aren't quite as strong . My reloading book gives info on other milsurp rifles talking about the safe pressure loads in certain popular calibers but under the 7x57 had nothing and after checking others out they were correct about that . So I will need to becarful about how much higher can go with the spitzer . I can't remember off top of my head but it surprised me . Shows even trying to be careful and going by the book a person needs to cross check sometimes .
