I understand that, you mean Jap grenades... I had head that. Hard to say, could just be loose cockarocka or could be blind.

He's wearing a BAR belt so he may have just borrowed someone's rifle.

Appears to be a bayonet fitted Arisaka just to the left of the body.

There appears to be the bottom a foot next to the Arisaka. Note the split toe boot.
