George S. Abdella, 94, formerly of New Milford, CT, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Geer Nursing & Rehab Center in Canaan, CT. He was the husband of the late Louise Violano Abdella. Mr. Abdella was born in Danbury, CT, June 14, 1918, son of the late Samuel and Saleema Michael Abdella. He was a World War ii veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army.

can anyone ID the extra feature on the gas cylinder?

It almost looks like something attached to the bayonet lug...

The old single slot screw had to be replaced with the new gas cylinder lock screw with the valve in order to fire grenadesAttachment 113151Attachment 113152

And they came in the kits along with the launcher...yes, the extra thing is the lock for the grenade launcher. They had no spring so one either had to change them back or push the poppet valve closed before repetition was available again.

The kneeling position included one foot on the sling to keep down muzzle jump as demonstrated above...

is that for the launcher or the sight?

yes, the extra thing is the lock for the grenade launcher

any body have a better picture of this - Don't recall seeing this in the FM 23-30

Mark, Forgot to add that early pouch is for the grenade sight that is mounted on the side of the stock.
