Black-Out Curtain Damaged By Luftwaffe 1940

A couple of months ago, while searching for something else, I came across this section of "Black-out Curtain" which had been hanging in one of the windows of the bungalow when my family was dive bombed in November 1940. Most of the glass in the windows was blasted outwards but, as can be seen, at least some glass came inwards into the property. As well as their main purpose of reducing light emission, "Black-Out Curtains" did help normal curtains to catch shattered windows from sending glass into a property.

I have seen green as well as black "Black-Out Curtains" but am not aware of them being produced in any other colour.

Air Raid Wardens took the matter of "Blackout" very seriously during WW2 in the UK and people could be dealt with robustly if they didn't "PUT THAT LIGHT OUT.'
