    VZ 24 Firing Pin

I recently acquired a 1939(?) Romanian contract VZ24. After the restoration was complete (cleaning out tons of crud and a lot of TLC), everything seemed to work great including a very smooth bolt. Unfortunately, when it got to the range, it didn't work. When the trigger is pulled, the chambered round won't fire. Upon examination, the rounds have a light strike mark on the primer. I believe the problem is with the firing pin, the firing pin spring or both. Finding a VZ24 specific firing pin and spring has been a challenge. Can I use a Kar98kicon or M48 firing pin/spring? Thank you for advice and recommendations.

You should be able to use a k98k firing pin and spring. The M48 won't fit because I believe its an intermediate length action.
Most likely its your firing pin spring that is the issue. I have a turkish mauser that would not ignite surplus ammo. Changed out the spring and it works every time now. Wolf springs https://www.gunsprings.com/ makes a very good aftermarket spring for a Mauser. Hope this helps.

Thank you sir! I'll try the spring suggestion first.

Just a quick follow-up. I obtained a Wolf spring and installed it. Finally got to shoot it today and it worked perfectly with commercial PMC ammo. I tried a few of my Ethiopian surplus and that didn't go well with two no-fires and one very delayed firing (almost comical if it wasn't so dangerous). This VZ will only be fed commercial ammo from now on. Thank you for the advice.

Most surplus ammo left today is very scary to say the least. If it goes off at all. The biggest problem I see from my customers is that alot of it is machine gun ammo. Which is very hot an very fast. Which in turn has the rifle key holing at the target, Then you have to deal with them effects of your rifle turning red in matter of very little time due to corrosive salts. Best thing to due with surplus ammo is take it apart an reuse the heads. Put the powder in your garden. Scrap the rest.

The Ethiopian stuff fires pretty well in my M48. I won't risk it in my Kar98kicon.
