Found some early 7mm Mauser cartridges & clip

Some years ago a bought a small collection of US cartridges from a small gun store, all of these cartridges were from the 1890 to 1914 time period. there was 30-03 in five round clips , early 30-40 Krag including blank, dummy guard loads and early 38 Colt and 45 cal Model 1909 cartridges too. Very early 30-06 and 30-06 converted from 30-03 were most interesting, but among all these US "turn of the century" cartridges was a single clip of 7x57mm Mauser from Spain. Makes you wonder how and why this 7mm clip got into this collection ?

Very nice pick up there RCS, I've got to go through a bulk lot of stuff I bought 20+ years ago and have a really good look at what's actually in there.
I've sorted a bit of it into Imperial, Metric & US stuff but not delved to much into dates, type, caliber, headstamps.

That would have been very neat. That's where you find them, or a cigar box or shoe box of stuff. Found a complete #36 grenade in a shoebox of cartridges and stuff...

Trophy of the Spanish-American war? Would have been used in their M1893 Mauser rifles.

I have always thought the same thing but impossible to prove !

What does the mix of cartridges and date [1896] tell us? Could have been available in Cuba at the time of the war but only research on Spanish ammunition purchase for use in Cuba could confirm that. And then only that it was available. And then, of course, that it was in use in Cuba at the time of the war. Etc ...

Identifying the clip will help but it might be a clip from anywhere too. The cartridge head size is generic for many military cartridges and should fit any K98 version?
