I finally finished removing the glossy varnish from my 1895 and hand rubbing four coats of raw linseed oil into it. Looks good. So I took it to the range. Still shoots.
I decided to start by seating just shy of the rifling. These are single fed as they are longer than the magazine.
Velocities were also quite a bit slower than the book (Lyman 51). I am shooting Hornady 154 grain SST’s (2nd’s) and IMR 4895. Next time I’ll seat deeper.
I let the barrel cool between each group. I noticed there was typically a first round flyer on a cool barrel.
