Hey Charlie, have you heard anything about how he got the rifle onto that roof without being seen? Or was he seen beforehand with a rifle before getting on the roof? I'm just wondering how that rifle got up there. At first he was only seen with a rangefinder, where was the rifle at this point in time? I'm curious to find out these answers in the coming weeks hopefully. I'm also curious to know how far away his car was parked from the building he scaled to the roof

No one yet seems to know how he got the rifle on the roof. The Congressmen were wondering about that as well. A pistol can be hidden an AR not so much.
The scope on the rifle has been identified as a type of Red Dot scope. I'm not familiar at all with today's red dots, I used one side mounted on a 30-30 Winchester when I was 12, and at 50 yards it covered a bucket. Thankfully, I never had to shoot at a deer with it. My sister shot her buck early in the morning and I got her's to use. I'm sure they have improved substantially since then.
He apparently was also flying a drone over the site and possibly live streaming it. The security failures just continue to mount.
As for a bullet proof vest, not sure they are up to the task of stopping a 5.56 round or not. Most are designed for shrapnel and pistol ammo. I'm sure the President has top of the line, I hope so anyway but is it still good enough.

JD,
I heard the FBI Director talking about the explosives in his car but said nothing about where it was parked. In one of the film clips from the people on the ground they were yelling that Crooks (now on the roof) had a gun and to take cover. FBI released that the AR15 had a collapsible stock and that it could have been easily hidden but no mention of where, unless it's the backpack they found that they are testing...... currently 'Thought' to be Crooks bag.
I really doubt we'll get all the answers we all seek. Feds have a way of not disclosing 'Failures' in the name of National Security.
I watched George Wallace catch lead and never got many answers. Look at Kennedy........ they're still not sure of how many shooters. Was Lee Harvey Oswald that good from over 265 feet and 6 stories up using a bolt action Carcano and 4x scope. Getting off 3 shots inside IIRC ~7 seconds ? And Jack Ruby sure had a convenient spot 2 days later.
Edit to add picture of Crooks bicycle with backpack at rally scene

That answered a few of the questions I had I did not realize the bicycle belonged to crooks. I was under the impression that was someone else's.

The obvious answer is that it was already on the roof at the time of the event and was placed there a day or two before the event when there were not too many people about. It all depends on how much of the surrounding area was searched before the event, how thorough any search conducted was and the time interval between any search conducted and the event taking place.

Kind of makes me wonder if he didn't pitch it up there on that roof a day or two before the event. Or maybe even climbed up the exact same way he did on the day of the event and hid the rifle on the roof somewhere out of sight, which I don't know where that would be.If he did, then that's another security failure if they swept the area beforehand and didn't see it. Surely that can't be but if he was flying a drone a day or two before the event over the area, I just wonder what else he done in the days before. I can't find a picture of the rifle he used for some reason but does anyone know if it had a sling attached?

Hey Charlie, I just noticed when I zoom in on the picture you posted of crooks bicycle, look at the bedroll type bag strapped to the handlebars that go all the way across the whole width of the bicycle handlebars, which would probably be long enough to hide an AR-15 with the stock collapsed all the way in and it looks like he could just pull it right out of that bed roll looking thing. I don't think he had anything but maybe ammo in that backpack but that bedroll thing to me looks 100% suspicious

I doubt the AR was on that roof prior to the event. Otherwise the 2 LEO's that had the window watch would have clearly seen it. Same 2 LEO's that were called away to search for the suspicious person. When the Congressional members were there they showed a view from both those windows down on to the roof Crooks shot from and there were no obstructions you'd be able to hide anything beside or behind.
Either bag on that bike would fit his AR. Heck if needed it just takes a few seconds to separate the upper from the lower.......... if needed.
I know the AR15 is a older DPMS Oracle, Possibly the Optics ready version aka Flat Top that the kid bought from his Father. I have the same one bought new about 4 years ago still in the box with the tags still on it. Comes with the collapsible butt.

I ask people who say that Lee Harvey Oswald got three shots off in 7 seconds this one simple question: "So he didn't aim for his first shot?" Yes, there was 7 seconds between the first and third shots but how long did he aim for the first shot? 3 or 4 seconds? Suddenly, saying he got three shots off in 11 seconds isn't so fantastic since he was a former Marine after all. I was a friend of Jim Mars (RIP), the noted Kennedy assassination lecturer, author, blogger, and part-time television star who was a huge proponent of the "2nd shooter" theory. He and I would butt heads all the time since I believed Oswald was the only shooter. Now, whether or not outside forces put Oswald up to it is another question.

Somewhere here I read that the Oswald shooting was tried by an Italian sharpshooter at that time, using the same rifle and similar optic.
He did it.
