Well I have been quiet due to our modem that went south and for some reason it knocked out my comps graphics card along with my comps wi-fi don't know why but it just did.
Anyway my comp is slowly dying due to a fluid leak that happened a while ago so we changed it to an air cooled version however damage had been done.
Fluid got on the cpu and over time has gradually degraded my comps performance so instead of a 4 core processor I am only running on 1 core pretty damn slow and getting slower.
Cannot complain I had it 11 years so I may get my son to build me one as this one was $4K in 2014 basically a gaming computer in the day.
So here is the inevitable thing the inbuilt design flaw that keeps you spending $'s to update your equipment.

I change computer about every four years or it gives me greif. I don't think they're worth rebuilding, not today. Back years ago they were far too expensive to just buy a new one...now not so bad. Also I just run laptop, don't need a desktop. I don't do business, just this. I keep an external hard drive to transfer sensitive stuff to for sale keeping. That way if this one crashes I just tube it. Quad core at least for faster processing...for sure.

I bought a laptop with the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor soon after they were introduced in 2017 and 8 years later it's still running like a champ. If I remember it was around $1,200 when purchased which was pricey at the time but it had a few add-ons like the NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX graphics card and a back-lit keyboard. Like Jim I keep all my files on an external hard drive just in case but I expect my 8 year old laptop to keep soldiering on.

Cinders, you must be a serious gamer if you've got a liquid cooled CPU!

I've built them, bought them, etc., now I just call dell and have them build and ship to me. Last price checks, it was the cheapest way, and everything worked together quite well. Dell has come a long way for me to say that.

Dell is the best option IMHO. Lenovo is very solid too, but of course built in the PRC so one always wonders.

Cinders, get yourself a LaCie rugged external drive and download all your files while your PC is offline. Just let it work away while you're doing other things. You don't want that drive to be contaminated so keep the PC offline when the drive is connected; not 100%, but it will help.

Desktop PCs are almost a dying art around here; lots of powerful units for sale quite cheaply, especially ex-gaming units whose owners are constantly upgrading. Put in a new solid state drive and get the BIOS wiped and upgraded and you're good to go.

I'm running Win7 Pro and when that stops working I'm done with windoze. Good security software is worth paying for.

Thx Jim I just downloaded all my files from both hard drives in my comp onto a 2 terra-bite external drive my son builds his own comps over the years has gained a good knowledge of products and what works well so I may just say cost a unit out and we will see.
At the time of this comps purchase I basically bought him the same unit as he was a teenager on his PS 2 gaming so I thought what the heck the comp store loved us was the thick end of $9k after we got the add ons ect like top of the range gaming keyboards & flight joysticks now I guess is time to start the ball rolling.

Won't be till possibly the end of the year as we have a 4X4 trip away prepping for that eats up $'s this time I am having like last time a full service along with all the wheel bearings checked, cleaned & repacked with fresh grease, thankfully my tyres are good enough for the estimated 3,500-4,000 klm trip.
Then the wife has a cruise to go on with her Mum & sister in July, also I've just had 2 new tyres fitted to my wife's bike with 2 of my own bikes wanting new boots as well now they are an expensive item.
