First 1911 purchase question
I am looking to buy my first 1911 and need a little help. I am looking for a new 1911 that is close to the military issue without spending over 700 and reliable. Was wondering if that is even reasonable. If so what would be some good suggestions. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Look at the Springfield Armory line. They still offer model(s) that look similar to the USGI M1911A1. Others here will be able to tell you more about them.
If you are going to use it as a shooter, why buy something brand new? I see them being carried around at the gun shows all the time by those who shouldn't have bought them in the first place...didn't know what they wanted, could afford them, etc...
I believe the SA pistols and probably some others as well come with lifetime warranties.
A guy wanted to trade me a NIB-condition SA at a recent show. I had original USGI pieces for sale and declined his offer, but think he only wanted about $500 for it. I think that's about what they go for.

agree, the Springfield Mil spec, is a great pistol for the money, SA has awesome customer service, and a fast turn around on work.
every time iv sent a customers rifle or pistol in for upgrades, or warranty work, its been done fast, and done right.
iv had them do a new barrel on my personal M1A
, thats was pretty much worn out, they upgraded to a Dauglas heavy target barrel and sent back my old TRW barrel, all for 150.00 and turned it around in less then 2 weeks.
sent a match target 1911A1 last year, that had the spring guide tube come loose, on a new pistol.
2 weeks, and no charge..
had a XD 45 that wouldnt feed right.
sent the customer a new pistol, with a 100.00 gift card for SA goodies.
cant go wrong with them...first rate.

I vote for Springfield Armory as well. The have a variety of pistols that will work for you. I gave my son one that I've had for over 20 years not too long ago. He's in your neck of the woods and he and his buds go over to the VFW post and shoot on a range they helped build there. Why not go check it out.
Who you with?

Thanks
I appreciate all the insight. I think I will go for the Springfield Mil Spec. One more question though, is the Parkerized finish ok or is the Stainless alittle better? Going to start looking today. I'll have to check out the VFW down here for the range, thanks Badabing! I work on the Air Station in Jville.

Stainless is great for a rough and tumble pistol. though a bit softer.
i like the Parked one myself.
i owned one for a while, trigger was a bit heavy, but it never failed to feed.
and hit what i pointed it at..{bonus} .

My son is at New River. He's an echo 5 with a training squadron for the Osprey. He used to be with HMM 365 (46's). Mine was parkerized. Stainless wasn't offered back when I bought it. I had only one stainless 45 in my life, a Randall. It gave me feeding problems even with military hardball. I traded it off. I think Parkerized if more authentic but stainless is rust and corrosion resistant. However, that should be a problem with a Marine who knows how to take care of his weapon.

New River
I'll stick with the parkerized. I'm with the Osprey as well.

I've always favored 60s commercial Colts
I believe them to be very high quality and now I think cheaper than Militarys. That said, I recommended trying a Springfield to a kid at work since I had heard that the Corps was buying quantities from them. I was pleasantly surprised at the fit and finish of the pistol and it shot and fed well. A real bargain in today's market. I believe the parts interchange with US military as well.

Another question
I'm finding that theses are going to be hard to come by, I have another question though. Is the Springfield GI model as good as the Mil spec. I was able to locate a GI model locally. thanks.again
