Just had a thought about this request for a No8 bolt head. I know that it's not going to make a jot of difference to anyone out there but are you all aware that there was/is EIGHT sizes of bolt head for the No8 rifle.
There are also CHS gauges too although quite why always remained a mystery to me as it seems pretty well implausible that you'd rupture the rear of a cartridge case if it was within a couple of inches or so!
If there is any interest I'll find out the correct CHS limits for the No8 (No2 rifle was identical too) rifles. If I remember correctly, the .218 plug bore gauge must run freely. Over the last fwe years or so, there was a spate of fracturing cocking pieces with No8's which some reported back was because of hardening problems. Has anyone out in Civvy-land had a fractured cocking piece
Back to the plot............ Try BDL
first Hal then come back and I'll see what's still laying around

I seem to remember something about the MOD removing the bolt heads on cadet rifles and then losing them.
And wasn't there someone on the old Gun and Knife forum who was making a batch of the bolt heads.? Or was that on the early Jouster
forums.?

The thread has become a bit clouded Hal. What exactly are you looking for? A No7 or No8 bolt head?
Let me know soonest...........................

I am looking for a No 8 bolt head. A bit easier to find than a Brit #7. I want it to make a shooter out of one of those 20 dollar Brit No7 barrelled actions that were sold off several years ago.

So it is confusing - you want a No8 bolt head for a No7 Hmmmmmmm!!!
I might have this totally 'ars* about face' but I read somewhere that the No8 bolt was shorter than the No 7 and the barrel was "screwed" into the action further to achieve this (the chamber was sticking out into the action) This being the case then a No 8 bolt head wouldnt fit into a No7 barreled action.
Are things like locking lugs, sears etc going to line up ?
Would it work with a No8 bolt head on a No4 Bolt - or even a No9 bolt head on a No4 bolt - who knows ?
Maybe Mr Laidler
would be kind enough to comment / confirm / deny ?
I'll send you the $20, you send me the barreled action and I'll play with it - good idea ?
