    Type 38

How do you properly remove the front band and cleaning rod retainer from a Type 38 Rifle?

Johnny, you have to push down on the spring to the rear of the front band to allow the band to go forward.
Sometimes you really have to push hard to allow the spring to dis-ingage from holding the band. Ray

Ray, thanks for the help. Never occurred to me that the cleaning rod retaining spring could also retain the top band.

I almost beatup a front band until I finally figured that out so don't feel bad about not thinking about it as neither did I at first, Ray

You have to have the cleaning rod out before the latch will push in far enough to disengage from the band.

And not unusual; the Swedishicon 96 and some other rifles work the same way.
