Ross Bayonet Knives
I figured I would show a couple of these Ross Bayonet converted knives I picked up awhile back. The few links I have found with information on these conversions has been reasonable as shown in the links on previous discussion boards. I picked these up before really knowing anything about them, just kind’a following a divergent path of adding interesting bayonets converted to theatre/combat/hunting knives…etc. These have proved to have an interesting story as it has evolved as part of the “Ross Rifle Story”, book. Of course the links below also mention other possible reference sources as well.

Ross fighting knife
Unknown Bayonet
As a rough description the only Ross bayonet example I have at this time is US surcharged, having seen US Service at one point. The other two are knives converted by PAL during WWII through a Canadian
entrepreneur. Apparently the bayonets (about 2000 or more of them, a rough estimate) that were converted did not make it as intended for the war effort and were sold as hunting knives after the War. The Story is covered in the “The Ross Rifle Story”, which I do not have a copy. The Ross Rifle book is out of print and commands major money even in used condition from what I have discerned trying to search for a copy on the internet and other places. I have one each of the Ross Knives, that is one with the C -><- cancellation marks and one without, The Ross knife with the cancellation marks came with a scabbard.
These Ross knives seem to have been well received, I have not really seen one (as new) condition, most have been used well for their intended purpose, definitely not thought of as collector items after the war. Just filling a small roll on a hunters belt or in a fishermans tackle box of sorts as industries returned to civilian roles. After handling the two I have, they have a good feel in the hand with their weight, broad shortened blades, and slight bowie styled point. PAL did s rather nice job with them even during the wartime crush with their other US defense priorities at the time.
