    Question about bolts

This probably best answered by BQ but he may be busy.
I've heard some people say that on a carbine bolt the left lug is just a guide for the bolt to travel down the receiver, that the right lug takes all of the stress. This seems kind of short sighted on the part of the designers as two lugs regardless of size should help the bolt much better than one.
My question is; does anyone have proof of this theory or is it just a theory?

This is one answer, I think BQ missed awhile back on CMPicon forum. If I remember right he said it also took some load. I think that is not correct. You only want one surface to headspace to. And what if the left lug is shorter to the chamber than the right and takes all the load, well at least it would one time. It is not designed to take any load. As proof, you can look at the drawings and see the dimensional off set to the chamber is equal to the right lug or longer. The left lug is the safety lug, only to take the load, if the right lug fails.
