    Sling ID

I stopped in a couple of my local gun shops today and one had a bag of slings for sale for $10. It contained a Carcano sling which I wanted to replace the one on my cavalry carbine and an unknown sling that looks military.

It has a built in keeper on the end and a brass button connection on the other end. Total length is 48 inches, width is 7/8th inches, keeper is 1 3/8th inches long and riveted.

It has five teardrop cut holes on the bottom and two teardrop cut holes on the keeper half.

No markings that I can find.

Closest match I can find is a German K43 sling from the rifle sling page or it could be a late war K98icon sling which eliminated the separate keeper. The keeper seems consistent with the German practice of the slot in the stock.

Included a third sling that looks to be brand new construction, is 7feet 5 1/2 inches long, 3/4 inch wide with a big brass, concave buckle with a fixed pin sticking straight up and out.

Closest I've found were a "Ching" sling and a Rhodesian scout rifle sling. It does not match either exactly as the Ching is two piece and the Rhodesian has a button end and this one does not. When I looked at it at the shop, I thought it was a cheap piece of junk but looking at it here at home, it's pretty decent quality, real leather, and it looks like it might be a repro sling of some sort.

In any case the Carcano sling was worth the $10 to me so these two are just a bonus. Knowing what they are would be nice.

Might be a bridle for a horse. No idea, I know nothing about horse tack but the buckle looks similar.

True, but you also find those buckles on the US issue shoulder holster M7...

    Jim,

Pretty sure it's not one of those. Too long, holes not right, no links, etc for the multiple pieces. It does look similar in quality to one sold by Mountain State Supply.

No, I just mean the buckle is the same. The strap? Who knows...
