    Bolt marking

I have a bolt on a Smith Corona with the mark NS on the top of the flat spot at the bolt handle. What does it mean?

Also have a circled S front sight hood which I think means it is a Seaville Mfg Co. stamp. Is this correct for a Smith Corona? Front sight is marked with Remington R. Is the Seaville sight hood somewhat rare?

The NS bolt is a replacement - dates from the late 1920s or 1930s. It is a replacement.

The S-marked front sight cover, I believe, was made by Sedgely during WWII.

Is NS not a marking for Nickel Steel? As in improvements to the material after WW1?
    Regards, Jim

I have not found any references to Sedgely as a marking on the hood cover. The mark is a very distinct fancy S in a circle. Jim, good point about the NS marked bolt handle.

The NS-marked bolt was indeed made from nickel steel, as were the later Springfield M1903 receivers. It was not installed on Smith-Corona M1903A3s during manufacture. It is a replacement.
