    PPS-43-C Semi-auto Pistol

Thought some of you might like to see pictures of the semi-auto PPS-43-C pistol made in Radom, Poland and imported by I.O.

The folding butt is welded in the closed position. By law here that makes it a pistol and it has been converted to semi-auto only. Under the butt plate you can see the denial trough that keeps a full-auto bolt from being installed.

It’s very easy to open for cleaning. Just press the latch with your thumb and it folds open. The bolt and captured return spring assemble come out as one.

It has been modified to a hammer fired system. The hammer spring is very powerful and has no trouble with hard primed ammo.

A channel has been milled it the top of the bolt so it can pass the denial ridge inside the top of the receiver.

Here you can see the firing pin inside the bolt and the slot cut in the return spring assembly lug.

It’s not an original PPS-43, but for around $350 it’s very nice shooter.

    Very nice example!

These was talk of these coming to Canadaicon from Poland through an importer, possibly with the stocks unmodified as a restricted class rifle but that was a few years ago, so I suspect there has been a snag in the process.

I always thought the 7.62x25mm cartridge was an interesting and cheap caliber, and wondered how it would perform as a carbine or other longer barrel platform such as this. I would think it would be a load of fun to shoot, probably snappy.

The cost and availability does have me envious.

Would it legally possible for you to tax it as an SBR and use the stock, or better yet, graft a wood PPSH stock?

It could be converted to an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle). The tax stamp would be $200. It would also need a new folding mechanism. The one in it is welded solid and would have to be cut out.

My son-in-law has the carbine. It has a 16” barrel and the butt can be extended and folded. That’s the one I would SBR since it would be very easy to just shorten the barrel.

All the cheap surplus 7.62x25mm has been used up here. But it’s only a semi and you can only shoot so much. I shoot it with a chamber liner in the old Enfields that might not be able to handle pull powered .303. Children love it because it has no recoil.

The longer barrel doesn’t seem to increase performance much. I think around 10” would get most of the performance out of it. The long Enfield barrel does make it quieter though.

I am envious those cheap and plentiful SVT-40’s you guys have up there. 54R is still plentiful and cheap here.

It's heavier than an M1a1, but I like mine. For some precision, I use the sling to provide tension whilst pushing the pistol forward. Nicely made and the closed bolt conversion is probably the best encountered to date.

I to like the 7.62x25 Tok round. I have a Ppsh 41 and it is a blast to shoot. To bad all the surplus ammo is gone [down range]!

They also sell a 9mm version of the PPS43-C and it works fine. So I picked a 9mm barrel just in case 7.62x25mm gets too expensive.

I have been thinking about making a 9mm barrel for my PPSh-41. I made one for a “Colefire Magnum” pistol and it turned out well. Best part is I now use Sterling magazines in it instead of the modified Sten mags.
