Brazilian 1908 Mauser information request.

I’m new to collecting milsurp Mauser’s.
I’ve been offered a 1908 Brazilian 7mm Mauser in trade for something I have for sale.
It appears to be numbers matching and has gone through Brazilian Arsenal maintenance/overhaul twice in its life. Once in the 1930’s and once in the 1950’s.
Can anyone offer a Mausers for Dummies overview of what I should be looking for on this rifle? Perhaps even a rough value for one in surplus/functional condition?

Gunbroker currently has several in the $450-$500 range with no bids. The South American rifles are well made but not as well sought after as other Mausers. I have several but Brazil is not one of them. It it's in good shape, I would get it just to have it keeping the value in mind. I have several Argentines, a couple from Chile and one each from Ecuador and Peru. The Brazilian ones I've encountered were beat up pretty bad.

I have a Brazilian one in mint condition. Had a great luck with it, and a Peruvian one in same conditions. Great shooters, wonderful calibres. Here, you find them between 700 and 1500€, depending on condition. Even more if mint. I can’t do anything but suggest to have a go if price and condition are ok. Pictures?

I did end up with the rifle, made a reasonable deal I think.
Looks to me like the barrel has been replaced at some point.
Arsenal refurbished in 1938 and 1953 in Brazil.
Nice rifle really, but not a mint original, it’s had a long service life!





Probably not going to keep it though, not really what I’m interested in.

Try to shoot it. If it is a shooter, and you find ammo or components for reloading, then it will be difficult to part from it...

I’m told by the previous owner that it is a great shooter, very accurate. I’m not into reloading, just don’t have the time. Too many different calibres in my collection as it is! Don’t really want to add another. As much as I like it, I’ll try to find it a new home. Too many rifles out there that I want more than this one.

Good luck parting with it. I have a hard time with that but have managed with a few. I'd probably take it off your hands if you lived close as I don't have one. I have 63 different military calibers now, plus 17 civilian calibers. I have half a dozen military I have no ammunition for.

I went the opposite direction of you, buy a lot of rifles that all shoot the same caliber as it greatly simplifies things. I have about a dozen rifles that all shoot .303 British and the other milsurps I have (Arisaka and Argentine Mauser) might have different cartridges but also shoot .311" bullets. .30 carbine, 7.62 NATO, .22 Rimfire, 9mm, and .45 ACP round out the rest.

I'm a bit in between, with 48 or so military calibers. I'm set up to load for all of them except the 8X56 Austrian. The 314299 mold does cover a lot of ground here.
