    1908 Brazilian Mauser

Tried resist, but apparently I was meant to be the steward of this beautiful rifle for a time.
The bolt itself is unnumbered and the two digit makings on the safety & coking match one another but not the last two of the receiver but the floor plate and trigger guard do. Appears to have a painted type finish on the butt plate, trigger guard and barrel bands. Would this indicate a rework at some point? Bore looks fantastic. The rear sling swivel appears to be incorrect while the stock appears unmolested with sharp cartouches and some very minor dings. Any thoughts on the originality of the rifle given the condition?

May try to remove the small rust spots and steam and oil the stock. Then off to find some 7mm.

Very nice. I've been tempted too but have been able to resist. Not as nice as that one though. That would be tough.

I think it will help (a bit) waiting for my Garandicon. Did a little steaming on the dents with a BLOicon chaser. This is the nicest stock of any rifle in my small collection.

The finish looks to be correct from what I can see. There are no sanding marks and the minor rust makes me think no re-finish attempt has been done. Just some fine steel wool and oil...I wouldn't get too wrapped up though.

I will post some detailed photos. The butt plate has been painted over some dents and I think the bayonet lug is supposed to be in the white as should the stock disk from the photos I have seen. The rear sling swivel is an add on as it appears homemade and should have the GEWicon 98 style QD .

I don't know...the rear swivel may be correct. Why do you think it's homemade?

I maintain the swivel is correct. The rest looks like paint...
