That's an IE type thing and with all the holes it has in security, I can understand why Microsoft is phobic ...

That's a security ticket warning that isn't really something to worry about. Microsoft would like you to use their MSN chat system instead of anyone else's, but I can assure you our system is safer then that one.

However, if it concerns you to accept the "unknown" certificate, I'd suggest not using the chat rooms.

Thanks for letting us know that IE wants a certificate as we haven't encountered that as yet, even with our IE8, however we do run Firefox and Safari most of the time.

    Regards,
    Badger

'Hooks' - (and anyone else on broadband)

Have you tried using 'Firefox' for your internet browser?

It's SO much simpler (but advanced as far a protection) than Internet Explorer and it's MUCH faster.
It doesn't have any ads or other crap on the home page, and it seems to work with everything without 'false alarms' that Internet Explorer keeps coming up with. (Where you have to 'click' the yellow band across the top to manually allow many things it doesn't know about)

You can open Firefox at the same time as IE and use the tab along the bottom to jump back and forth between both browsers. Unlike IE, you can also open Firefox twice, so you can stay on the forum page you're viewing, and then open Firefox again to search the same forum (or another forum) for something you wanted to go back to find something by clicking on the tabs along the bottom.

Firefox makes it easy to use your favorite site as your home page too.
I have Milsurps.com as my home page and it only shows the Milsurps home page and no junk at all.

Firefox also checks for your spelling when you are writing a post on any internet forum.

Here's a link to download Mozzila Firefox if you're interested in trying it.

cadfdw makes a good point …

Note: The moral of that testing is ABIE (anything but Internet Explorer) by Microsoft ...

By the way, Firefox has released a newer version that wasn't tested. It's v3.6 and here's its results against the v3.5 used in the testing above.

I am running Windows 7 OS with a 64 bit processor. I can open at least two IE windows at a time (am sure more if desired) however many web sites seem to have a problem with the 64 bit version and I usually use the 32. With the IE security issues I am having, Firefox sounds like something worth trying. I have heard a lot of positive comments about it. I especially like the spell check you mentioned. Spelling and grammer are not my strong points.

Thought I would check IE and I opened up four different web site’s, which I can toggle from one to the other. I don’t know if there is a limit on how many I could run. Still doesn’t solve the security issue.

Spelling and grammar are the bane of my existence ...

I think you have your IE security level on high?

I no longer use Windows based machines (except as an emulator on my Mac), having switched to an Apple MacBook Pro running OSX Leopard operating system with FireFox Browser. I was a PC user from one of the early 1980's "green screen" machines all the way through to this last year, when I switched our whole family over to Macs and iPhones. Love it ...

Under Internet options, check the web site security slider and see if you switch it to "medium" or "custom", if that helps. You can also simply accept the certificate and add it to your list of permissible sites.

    Thanks for the feedback ..

    Regards,
    Badger

I have changed my level of security to medium; fact is that is where it was to begin with. Strange thing is I can accept downloading from “the yellow bar at top of window” and it opens up another window of acceptance which opens the third warning I posted a picture of and there is no work-around. I am running three computers on a home network and it might be an “administrator thing”. I will keep working on it and am sure will find a solution. I have a feeling this “chat” function will take off soon and would like to be a part of it.

Well with our formal "Guest Speaker" nights currently being arrange, plus perhaps various individuals from the forums who may want to organize their own regularly scheduled get togethers, it's possible.

Our 11,000+ member demographic here is OLD ..

    Heck, I'm 62 and I think I'm probably the median age ...

So, it's a tough go for a lot of guys who never grew up with the technology to handle just the forums, pic uploading, viewing videos etc., let alone chat in real time on a keyboard with their electronic buddies.

We invested in a professionally developed and hosted chat system, so the options available to the individual (ie: LARGE font size if you want), plus high performance with low server lag and ease of use make it enjoyable to use. Going this route, although expensive, also doesn't impact the main server performance for folks who continue to browse and post on the primary server here.

If there's anything I can do to help you with the issues, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

    Regards,
    Badger

Badger, thanks for the offer of help. You are my junior by nine years. Never thought I would even use a computer much less do some of the things we are forced to do by twenty first century technology. My grandchildren have me using Facebook now, can’t get much worse than that.
