A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I have tried to trace this individual but no luck.

According to the D&C Police records it was destoyed by Guillotine - unless someone is cloning the D&C rifles this is the 5th example (I know of) of a D&C rifle that still 'exists'.

Enforcer 545 belonged to LERA member and then passed through my hands on its way to its new owner.

As you know, I am extremely sceptical of "twin ovoid" and "sloping engraving" Enforcers but, to my eye (and by reference to the four other Enforcers I also have), #545 appeared perfectly legit.

I would say that 545 is the highest number Enforcer I've seen which seemed "right"; all the ones I've seen above that have looked a bit iffy in the detail....

So what do people think the highest "REAL" legitimate serial numbered Enforcer is? Remembering Enfield sent no 762 to Bangkok in 1983!!

I had sn. 767 which was a rifle assembled from original parts by Charnwood Ordnance in the 1980's. The markings on the receiver were legit so I guess it can be considerd as "real". It now resides with a collector in the USAicon. As a matter of interest, it was a conversion of a Savage No.4 M1/3.

Just being the devils advocate Brian and you know my views of pheonix Enforcers, but if No 767 was assembled elsewhere than Enfield could it be possible that a Mk1/3 body was engraved '....elsewhere than Enfield'.

How many other Mk1/3 Enforcers are there out there I ask. Do you know of any more XL39

I suppose anything is possible but the story was that the barreled actions were traded to CO as spares along with the small parts when Enfield made it's move to Nottingham. Then they were assembled at CO. The bolts were not numbered making them easily distinguished from legit issued rifles. I've had a half dozen or so Enforcers through here over the years including well used ones complete with the matching Pecar scopes. The body markings all looked pretty much the same to me so I was never suspect of them. Considering they were fairly cheap and the market in Englandicon at the time was small, I really don't see why they would bother to fake them back then. Just my opinion.

I can remember seing one Long Branch a while ago but cannot remember the number, assuming it was a 1/3 and not a 1/2! (that would be a rarity)

    Is it this one ?
It was for sale at a an RFD in NE Englandicon who had a 'shed full' of Eforcer parts (barrels, actions, furniture etc etc.) that were purchased at the same time as Charnwood purchased their 'bits' (when Enfield closed down)

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...
