Fell off the wagon with a K-31 and Argentine Mauser

I am no expert so not being contrary. Just trying to educate myself. I thought the engineer and calvery were basicly the same with different sling arrangements? Calvery being side mounted and the engineer being in the standard location and one having a bayonet lug and the other not?

That is not my understanding.

Per Ball's "Mauser Military rifles of the World" the "Mountain Carbine" (also known as the "Engineer's model") is in a standard carbine configuration stock and the "Cavalry carbine" has the full length "Mannlicher" style stock.

I am going to go with your understanding as you have better refrences than google. I have seen three different configurations of the rifle I posted. The picture I posted and another with an intermediate band with a bayonet lug and a side/swivel mounted sling attachment(1909 model?) and yet one more with the sling attachments on the bottom of the stock and forend.My example is odd in that it seems to have been converted to its current configuration.Now your renewed addiction has me adding another Mauser to my Christmas list.I hope it is as pretty as the pictures.

AFAIK, the 1891 Argentine (the one in the picture that you attached) has no "Mountain" or "Engineer's" carbine. Only the '09 Mauser came in that configuration.

I've seen both of the '91 Mauser carbine versions that you described.
