It could be converted to an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle). The tax stamp would be $200. It would also need a new folding mechanism. The one in it is welded solid and would have to be cut out.

My son-in-law has the carbine. It has a 16” barrel and the butt can be extended and folded. That’s the one I would SBR since it would be very easy to just shorten the barrel.

All the cheap surplus 7.62x25mm has been used up here. But it’s only a semi and you can only shoot so much. I shoot it with a chamber liner in the old Enfields that might not be able to handle pull powered .303. Children love it because it has no recoil.

The longer barrel doesn’t seem to increase performance much. I think around 10” would get most of the performance out of it. The long Enfield barrel does make it quieter though.

I am envious those cheap and plentiful SVT-40’s you guys have up there. 54R is still plentiful and cheap here.
