    Would the side hole in the 37mm shell be the main fuse pocket, mounted on the side of the shell to delay the initiation of the main charge until the shell had achieve maximin penetration???

    It does state "P.D." on the shell. Could this mean penetration/delay?

    "PD" means point detonating. That kind of fuse would be on an exploding round, area dispersion. Anything for AP is solid shot.
