I'm not doubting the story at all, but as much information as there is about the M1
carbine either online, in books, in videos or what ever source, you'd think someone could figure out what they had, but not necessarily know a value. Of course, occasionally I'll run into a seller who knows what they have, but doesn't care enough about the carbine stuff they have to sell it for what it's worth; those type of sellers are few and far between now.

I don't think he cared, he is happy to make money to restore a Springfield trapdoor, plus I put him in touch with a guy who had parts he needed,anyway he got my payment yesterday and is shipping it out Monday or Tuesday, with any luck I'll have it in my hands by next weekend

No honor amongst thieves; it's all about profit margin.

I've seen RMC written like this:
R
M
C
On early handguards but never in a slingwell on a stock, is it uncommon ?

Flaming Bomb is up right when the RMC is up right/ like in your picture, Bomb is straight across from the R.
I can see by magnified ~150%
O = Bomb
R O
M
C
