Bumping this old thread . . . I'm betting time has shown that the vented gas port has indeed proven it's worth. I've been using one now for several years and it's a simple modification to allow the use of commercial ammo without any issues.

I'm also very curious as to what people do as the vents foul on the vented plugs and the pressures spikes.

No such issue.

That's what I found. I took an Allen and the extra screws if I was working up loads or using new ammo, start big and work down until you get reliable.
