    Bumping this old thread . . . I'm betting time has shown that the vented gas port has indeed proven it's worth. I've been using one now for several years and it's a simple modification to allow the use of commercial ammo without any issues.

    That's what I found. I took an Allen and the extra screws if I was working up loads or using new ammo, start big and work down until you get reliable.
