Yugo M95M restoration project

Hi everyone,

Im searching for some info about those yugo M95m. Got myselft a sporterized one and now that i have it in my hand, it look way different than i tought it would do. Barrel is shorter than a rifle M95 but longer than a carbine. My first concern is what kind of stock pieces and handguard did they originally fitted on those? Carbine stock? Cutted rifle stock? Or did they manufactured new one?
Handguard look specific too because the vz24 sight prevent the use of M95 handguard.
Really looking for all the info and advice i can get

I guess i doesnt then, im asking general info about the rifle model. I dont see why it would require picture of my rifle

They used the standard M95 stock it came with and cut it to length. So there are several varieties of stock.

As for the hand guard, that is more of a problem. You'll need to find a Mauser hand guard that fits over the rear sight and does not need a barrel ring to hold it on. I believe they snap on. You'll also have to most likely cut it and shape the end a bit to get it to the right size. The end cap will be hard to locate these days. The supply of them dried up and the prices are generally around $30 if you can find one. Most of the ones I've seen on ebay are coming from Europe. It's the standard end cap for the M95.

Pictures are helpful so we can see exactly what you have and what you need and if any further modifications were done to it. Check to ensure the internal clip is in place and the extractor is not broken. These two issues are the most troublesome with these rifles.

It seems like i might not have chosen the easiest project lol. Internal clip is present, extractor looks fine and is functional. Rear sight is present so metal side i think its all fine. It sits in a sporterized stock all barrel band are missing.

Look like im in over my head did not tought they had changed the wood pieces so mutch was expecting to use some m95 carbine wood and thats it.

Ill post picture tomorow when i have some time to show but as i keep reading other thread about this subject. Im starting to think that for the cost, it might not be in the best shape to deserve to be restored. Metal got some surface rust, bluing is okay, bore is fair.

I'm pretty sure the carbine stock is too short.

It's not a bad project. Mine is a restored sporterized also. The weird thing about mine however is that 2 years before I bought it, I picked up an odd ball stock at a gun show for $5.00. I needed a sling swivel for an M95 and this looked like it had the right swivel. Took the swivel off and put the stock in the attic and forgot about it until the day I bought the M95M. Dug out the stock and it was a perfect fit. The middle band and the end band with the stacking rod took some time. But the middle band depends on which stock you have. I had the cavalry version so needed the extra side swivel. The hand guard took some experimenting but wasn't too hard. Mine was a real piece of junk when I bought it. Got it dirt cheap because of that.
