Ron,
Rifle AS4213 was a part of batch number 67 which consisted of 4 Weapons and is recorded as being completed on the 30th June 1973. On completion it went out to Donnington.
Can't tell you anything about the scope I'm afraid, perhaps it has passed through Peters hands at some time?
Cheers,
Simon.

makes one wonder why the serial number has been changed...
I'm pretty sure if this particular rifle was completed in 1973 it would be marked as '73...

Or maybe the list is wrong? Is it renumbered or has the number just been over engraved? An 'AS' prefixed number would be appropriate for a M47 no 'C' 1943 produced rifle. I really couldn't say from the photo., but then my peepers ain't what they used to be.....

Thank You to Roger Payne For This Useful Post:

the serial number looks deeply engraved - would that have occurred at conversion, or at the point when these really extensive repairs to the butt stock occurred?

You're right as usual, I can't see a "C" on the mfg. code.
and the barrel appears to be dated 1973...

Hi Darren,
Couldn't say for sure, but I've seen a lot of L42's where the serial has been 'freshened up' by over-engraving. I suppose it's understandable that the military might do it at the time of conversion or refurb as the original numbers were only engraved very shallowly.

I've received a DM from XL39 regarding this one and the posted pic confirms that there is in fact a typo on the serial number list. We're now trying to clarify the date the rifle was issued to store on and the obvious choice is 30th June 75, interestingly the action is marked 74. Pity we can't identify the owners of the other three rifles in the batch, AT5678, 13924 and G33091, and get pics of the side wall engraving.

Hi I'm the current owner of Enforcer serial number 767. I'm certain it wasn't issued but any info you may have would be of great help. Thanks!
