Op Slide Problem ?
Noticed this on auction tonight.
Any one ever seen one cracked out like this?
Other than the fresh park over the pitting, the pads look nearly new.
Wonder how it happened ?

Maybe someone trying to drive the stop pin out the wrong direction with a hammer and punch - or trying to put one together with the an earlier stop pin and the late (longer) spring? That's the first one I've seen. - Bob

1st I've seen to Bob. It's a early round box seller is calling a PI. It would be easy to miss and buy it. It's an active auction.... You think I should post a link to it. so members are aware?
Note: I messaged the seller about it.

Machining run out. Likely not in the jig properly.
Possibly the machine operator fed the bit too fast.
I have seen a few SA slides like that.

That doesn't seem likely to me since the machined hole looks round and the wall doesn't appear thin at the "breakout." If true, wouldn't it have been scrapped on the production line or at QC inspection? - Bob

All it would take is a hard inclusion in the metal that would cause a bit to jump. I've seen a few parts ruined that way. If the break doesn't effect the utility of the part, they were sometimes passed like the drill run outs on some of the early deep hole drillings.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

Here's a later "deep hole drilling" that passed, on my oldest brother's 6.4M CMP Inland. - Bob

That's right, if it worked they accepted it. Maybe not in the beginning but for sure later.
