I suspect the buttstock is not the one shipped with the rifle. It is dated 1971. The rifle is dated 1969.

Envoys were not made in numerical order. Envoy E84 was made with a D69 action but was produced on 28th Sept 1971.

So, even if you have a low number ENVOY, it doesn't automatically mean it was an early one.

D70 dated actions were not used until much higher numbering.
