    Smokeless, extremely mild charge. 30grs H4198
    Going to a gun show today and hoping to find any type FF powder.

    shooting black powder 45-70

    I use to shoot a heavy barrel Remington Rolling Black rifle at 100 and 200 yards at small steel plates. I could stay on the four inch diameter steel places at 100 yards. it is difficult to get 70 grains of black powder in the case unless you use a drop tube. Before loading the black powder, I used five grains of the old IMR 4759 powder in the bottom of the case, then loaded the black powder, always kept the bore clean. Using the correct diameter bullet is important for accuracy in the 45-70.

    Also made a paper patch smooth bullet in a cylindrical mould that I made, nose pour for perfect base. the paper patch bullets were the same as grooved lead bullets at longer ranges, no real advantage
