WW2 auto license plates

There was a problem with animals such as dogs and livestock who would chew parts of the license plate off when mounted on a vehicle

Like today's vehicle wiring that has coatings made from vegetable products and has vermin attack it, I would think rats and mice would join racoons and others. Come out in the AM to find mounting hardware alone...

Brings to my mind the 24th Panzer Division that suffered a number of their tanks being rendered combat-ineffective behind the line at Stalingrad by hordes of hungry Bolshevik mice that ate the insulation off of their wiring.
