Yes, it's demystified me a little, too. I was aware (via a collector friend who had had an example of both) of there being 'two versions' of the .22 No5 rifle, that differed in several minor respects, including barrel length, & the provision (or otherwise) of the five shot magazine. I suspect all along that these two variants of the No5 may well have been the No5 & the No6.............unless of course, anyone does know of two definitive versions of the .22 No5.

So is anyone able to confirm what bolthead my spare one is? I'm looking to move it on but no point if I can't positively identify what it actually is! Cheers.

Judging from the picture Roger Payne
posted it is highly likely a No6 bolt head.
And judging by the lack of responses i would say it is rare (not many people know what it is) so that would support a bit the theory of it being for a No6 .22 rifle

I don't see any pictures from Roger - what post number are you looking at ?
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

No, I can't claim credit for any pix in this thread; perhaps Alan's?
Warren, thanks for your pic of the various .22's (& for the No32 grat pointers which have safely arrived!). I had not heard of a No6 trainer, but was aware of what I believed to be two distinct variants of the .22 No5. I note you refer to a civilian & a military version of the .22 No5, & wonder if in fact one of these was the No6? I'd think the bolt head is almost certainly for one or other of these.

The two No.5's in .22 have different receiver profiles, but with no definitive information, one MIGHT just might be a No.6
Anyone ???
One receiver has the left side profile of the No.5 Mk.1 and the other the No.4 Mk.1
Both bolt heads are slightly different in length.

My apologies... it was you Alan, in post #6
I could blame booze but since i dont drink i will admit it was just laziness on my part and didn't look on the previous page before writing my post.
Tonyd, you have the bolt in hand so you are better placed to compare it with Alan's pic.... what do you think?

So.. Is the consensus that these are No.6 .22 boltheads? I somehow have two. And they fit into the British
No.7 action with just a very small mis-alignment of the extractor slots.
