Jim, you are likely correct, but I think it is more of an issue with the gas system on the carbine and getting it cleaned properly after shooting corrosive ammo. Don't know 1st hand because I have never shot the corrosive stuff through a carbine. I have shot plenty through my SKS with no issues. As some have mentioned in the CMP link I posted above they have shot it and they say they have not had any issues, lots of different opinions.
