So I own the rifle.. the stock has been looked over by Ricky B and countless others in the GCA.. no issues.. the rifle is actually about the nicest Win-13 you could hope to find.. not sure what you are driving at..

What you are seeing is wood grain.. Winchester stocks weren’t always finished to the same detail as Springfield.. spend time with M1 carbines and it also becomes apparent.

Maybe if I get a chance I will pull out some M1’s (this and a few others in similar condition) and take pics and post them.,
