He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.
So because something seemed unusual to you…
You make some nonsensical post, where you pull 1 photo out of an entire album, essentially questioning the authenticity of my rifle, instead of just asking your question in a direct way?
Interesting way of getting forum traffic….and being “inviting” to infrequent posters
BTW.. this rifle has been posted on the CMPforum many times and in various FB Garand
groups..
Please share your Win-13… I’m curious now.

With all due respect.. I’m on all the major US and Germanforums…under the same screen name… and if my comment bothers the OP (or anyone here).. sorry…. BUT
1) The only logical reason the OP posted this thread was he thought there were issues with the stock. He literally comments when asked why he made a thread instead of just asking in the other thread.. “I didn’t want to identify the rifle.”
Why?
2) He literally pulled a single pic out of an album posted in a “Win-13” thread… there are way more pics showing the stock and anyone with knowledge (as he implies he has..) can see the stock is right as rain.
3). He could have sent a message asking for any info and I’d happily give it..: but he chose not to
4) No where in this thread does he apologize if others thought the stock wasn’t right but almost seems to “double down,” despite the leading stock guy saying otherwise…
Give me a break.., if you want to protect “your guy,”. So be it.., but if you do a search here you will find when I do post it is about collectible stuff.. US snipers (Unertl, M1C, A4’s) and collectors quality M1’s… Candidly the stuff I own is top tier stuff and stuff others can reference for what is both correct and in top condition… If you want collectors to come here (and let’s be real.. there aren’t many daily post of discussions). …
Let’s not be overly heavy handed and if going to admonish…. Do it equally
As a moderator on a page for Unertl snipers..feedback is a gift … since we all like public post instead of DM
Take care

The markings are real. The stock was possibly refinished and then put on a older Garand. I have been refinishing for over 30 years and seen and or worked on thousands and thousands of stocks. I have seen many odd looking cartouches with many from the Barn wood. Double stamped. Side ways. Stamps that look like they were two half's top and bottom from a bounce. I look at the letters, spacing, periods, distance to box edge, letter bridges and size of letters for starters. Don't get me started on the cannons lol. They are one of the hardest things for anyone today to make unless they are a Government artist worker.
This GHD was one of those straight out of the barn and sitting since WWII which is one heck of an anomaly. Makes me wonder if they had a 2 part stamp at some point. Rick B

Hey Rick, did moisture from the barn do that to the wood grain on the stock you show?

Greg, the number of forums you are on is irrelevant to the request to tone it down. Please rethink the responses before you post them. This is a forum meant to be friendly, non-combative, nonconfrentational and pleasent to all members.
If you see a post that sparks a curt response, ignore it, report it or make your post in a friendly and respectful manner.
This site very rarely gets in the middle of or micro manages any of its content and we sincerely don't wish to start now.
Thanks you for your cooperation in this matter.![]()

Thank you for your post…
Perspectives go both ways… if you want to claim you are a site which is “friendly, non-combative, non-confrontational, and pleasant to all members.” Then it can’t be one sided.. as I am also a member and my perspective at this moment is you (the moderators) want to protect “your guy,” and are not a lot of what you claim.
It is hard to take the OP intent of this thread any other way, other than attempting to “cast doubt” or call into question the legitimacy of the rifle. I’ve seen their previous post from an “experts” perspective..and their wording and “tone,” tried to convey that here..
Not once when their “questions,” were answered have they posted, much less after presumably reading my post which specifically addresses my concerns. Let’s be real if they were making an honest question based post, once they were informed their opinion was incorrect…, they would apologize for any potential negative blow back their question caused..
Yet they haven’t…
At the end of the day my perspective is you are more interested in protecting someone and keeping the “peace,” than actual fact based information about collectible items..
I am really a classic muscle car guy… a GermanWW2 collector second and US WW2 collector a distant third. I’m on many sites where my screen name doesn’t change and I mention that as I’ve been told some here are also on other forums… with different screen names.
The car and German gun sites I frequent don’t censure conversation in the effort to be “civil,” especially when members attempt to cast doubt on items owned by other members and are incorrect… nor do they trivialize themselves with civility over factual information .
They also don’t play favorites, when any censuring given should include both parties.. and it is commonly accepted anyone can be wrong and no one is above criticism or critique.
Sorry if I offended anyone..

Since this thread is what it is… probably should be locked and hopefully those who are genuinely curious about Win-13’s learned something

Well well. Okay, first we are not siding one way or another. When posts are reported we try very hard to respond quickly. It has nothing to do with taking sides for our guy.
Unfortunately you have shown you would rather continue to argue your point and although I understand wanting to make that point you have shown that, to you anyway, your point somehow outweighs the attempt to keep this site as the owner wants it. We have attempted to reason with you but you are more interested in keeping this going and having the last word.
I'm going to say this one last time, tone down your argumentative responses and share your thoughts and concerns in a respectful way.
I've been associated with this site for many years, back to the CSPand never have we had an issue with a member such as this. It will not be tolerated or condoned. It is not fair to the staff, members or you. I have read several times through this thread and I take no issue with any other member.
Now, if you are interested in enjoying and benefiting from the information contained within the pages and threads of this site then please do. If you are only interested in creating an apmosphere where other members and staff are made to feel uncomfortable and on their guard then perhaps this is not a site for you.
This is all I'll say on the matter. If you feel it necessary to continue this then we'll revisit it at that time.
