Thanks for the correction! I have very little data on '03-A4's. My reply was based on when the pads appeared in '03-A3's.
Thanks again for the correction!

John not so much a correction as just a contribution of another data point. You have certainly been a big help to me over the years. I'm just glad to be able to return the favor.

OK Guys - I just noticed something I missed before. In both Jim Gaynors Pictures and Chuck's SC Pictures I think I see a "relief cut" in the stock well for the "padded" TG.
Am I missing something here?..If indeed a stock "relief cut" for a padded TG was necessary wouldn't you think there are whole bunch of stocks out there that don't have the modification; unless the releif cut was done at rebuild in order to use a padded TG?. To be frank about it all I've done was to look to see if the TG was padded. Can't recall ever noticed nor looking for the "relief cut" for the pad on my stocks.

Mike,
No relief cut in the stock is necessary. The pad does not protrude above the pre-existing trigger guard profile.

Chuck,
I have data on 13 original rifles between your rifle, S/N 4752306, and my first SC rifle with a padded trigger guard, S/N 4792931 with SC/9-43 barrel. And none of them have padded trigger guards. Unless your rifle's receiver was, for some reason, held back in the SC factory and assembled later, the trigger guard has been replaced.
What is the barrel date on your rifle? Please advise.
Thanks!
J.B.

Mike I dont think its so much a cut as it is a "dent" from the pressure of the TG screws being cranked down. If you look you can see a rather pronouced groove made by the stamped edges of the TG Assy and also a little round dimple made by the hole in the center of the "pad".
To be honest since opening it up the other day i have been thinking about shimming the pad recess to see if it will improve the grouping.
Regards.
Jim
