Thanks for the barrel date. The date matches the serial number and is no indication that the rifle was held back in the Smith-Corona factory.

Unless your rifle's receiver was, for some reason, held back in the SC factory and assembled later, the trigger guard has been replaced.

What is the barrel date on your rifle? Please advise.

    Thanks!

JB - FYI - My rebuilt SC - 4800415 - Barrel 10/43 - RIA/EB Rebuild stamp on a SC stock. - Blue/black SC large bow TG with no pad. No "pad impression in the stock TG well. All other stock metal was 90%+ Remington except for handguard spring. General info only. HTH

Virtually every design change has a serial number transition range. The SC transition range to padded trigger guard began at about S/N 4792931. So your rifle can easily fall in the transition range and be correct with a non-padded trigger guard. For example, I show S/N 4827882 had a non-padded trigger guard.

Hope this helps. Thanks for the info!

    1903A4 trigger guard

My "A4" # 34100xx has a milled trigger guard. It is stamped with an R. I have had it since 1966 and bought it from a guy I think got it through the NRA.

Were milled guards ever used originally? I have an early(within frist 2000) A4 that has a milled guard as well.

I have found no evidence to indicate that milled trigger guards were ever factory-fitted to M '03-A4 rifles.
