For me what is important is that the stock is correct for the time period that the receiver and barrel would have gone together.

It was for a fact. I would mark through that bit of information in Poyer's book.
Some authors have a tendency to copy available material from someone else rather than go to the trouble of doing their own research which perpetuates any incorrect information.
