Thanks to all who responded! That was almost a very expensive mistake. The more I looked at it, the worse I felt, especially after looking at my good one. Thankfully I was outbid. According to the seller, these supposedly came from Numrich 15 years ago. Someone just got a pricey lump of coal for thier Christmas stocking.![]()
The description of the EMcF stock is very interesting. Note that it says "This a great original stock", but it not address the originality of the stampings. Carefully worded, it is a technically and probably legally correct description....
That was the other part that bothered me as well after I really read through the description more carefully. I e-mailed the seller and explained that my bid was based on the stock AND markings being original WW II vintage. He e-mailed back with the story about the Numrich connection and said he thought they were real. He also offered a 3 day inspection. I would have had the e-mails to back up a complaint to Gunbroker, but, at least for me, the problem solved itself with the other bidder. Lesson here is read the description like a lawyer would and always caveat emptor. And get a second opinion from the people here!

M1Garand SA EMcF stock : Stocks at GunBroker.com
Fortunately for all of us, the vendor has another EMcF for sale from the same batch.
I looked up his sales history and he has sold a number of cartouched stocks for $300+ with the questionable heritage.
I swear these guys are simply using good stocks and having them stamped and pawning them off on the unwary. It is getting worse, not better.
