As long as the VAR barrel is the same as a USGI contour barrel then it is legal.

    page 24
    6.3.1 As-Issued Military Rifle Requirements
    .
    .
    .
    (5) Rebarreling with a barrel of as-issued dimensions is permitted. A replacement barrel must have the same exact contours and cuts as the original as-issued barrel.

As far as I know VAR barrels are as-issued.

Var barrels are fine. Just as PB barrels are fine. However, Beretta receivers are a DQ. Mind you Weinig stocks are OK and Criterion barrels are OK.

Let's all go down to DQ and celebrate.

Thanks to all who replied - I may be taking the Dane to the Western Creedmore matches at Ben Avery if I can get it dialed in.

And it's not DQs that are killing me anymore, it's the dang soft-serve yogurt shops!

I watched a guy shoot the 2008 Texas State Garandicon match with a rifle that had a hooded rear sight aperture. Nothing was said. Basically, it hinges on who looks at your rifle, if at all. If you win, be prepared for a real close look-see.

No, you will be DQ'd if shooting a Garandicon with the "shims" to tighten the lock-up of the trigger guard. Of course, that only relaly matters if you finish in the top percentages (above the Gold Medal level). It would certainly disqualify from being the match winner as the rifles in the top are closely inspected (or even those pulled at random during the match). Good luck with that!
