I have a '44 Winchester with what I think is a replacement barrel. The only stamp/marking on the barrel is a W on the side of the gas piston housing. At some point it was filled in with white paint. I have not been able to find reference to similar markings online. It seems most Winchester barrels are marked on the top with a W about 4 inches from the end. Has anyone seen this type of mark and placement?

The other mystery is that my stock is a pot belly with a W in the sling slot and no other marks anywhere. Is this a standard Type 5 Win. stock? I'm assuming it's a replacement since these weren't made until '45.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
