I've taken another look at the records for our Mystery Scouser and now believe his name to be Mr Illsley. From the "record of despatches" it looks like Mr Illsley received a total of 7 Envoy's between 29/08/69 and 09/06/70

    Cheers,
    Simon.

What does RFD" mean? Do your records show what sights were on these rifles. Barrel length or or special order details? Does Mr "Illsley" have a first name and address? I am the current owner of E199. I have some documentation...shows rifle was used at Bisley..did very well and was purchased by a Canadian and brought back to Canadaicon. Was used in several DCRA matches. I acquired this approximately 5 years ago in a deal on a No4T.

Sorry, the records don't go into that much detail. They simply list the serial number, who the rifle was despatched too and the date it was despatched.
There is no record of a Christian name for Mr Illsley, I would suggest you contact the Firearms Licensing Dept at Liverpool http://www.merseyside.police.uk/html...arms/index.htm and tell them about your research and that you are looking for a Mr Illsley. If he was either a Registered Firearms Dealer or Firearms Certificate holder in Liverpool there's a good chance they'll have records of him.

    Cheers,
    Simon.

Hi, can you tell me if you have anything on A190.

Forum members tell me its an early L39 stamped 7.62 conv or something like that.

    Thanks
    Steve

Reply to your information on Envoy E389

Thanks for your information on my Envoy E389 indicating it was sent to Sussex Police. I have made some enquiries and found out the following which may be of interest to you.

Sussex Police purchased 12 Envoys in the early seventies as "sniper rifles"and the force armourer fitted them with Parker Hale mounts and pecar scopes.
They later purchased 10 Enforcers making 22 "sniper rifles" in all.
    The converted Envoy rifles were numbers E36, E45, E74, E114, E232, E256,
    E260, E320, E348, E386, E389, E505.

    The Enforcers numbers were 59, 188, 232, 361, 408, 453, 473, 482, 483, 494.

18 rifles were sold with their scopes to a local RFD in 1986. However Enforcers 453, 482, 483, 494 were sold to the City of London Police to be used by them as "sniper rifles" so these 4 rifles saw service with Sussex and City Police.

Can you give me any information on another of my Envoys E290 and my L42
(XL42E1) number E35634. (no its not for sale at any price)
    Thank you.

    Eric,

Envoy E290 is recorded as having been shipped out to Parker, Birmingham on the 06th Nov 1970.

Rifle number E35634 is not recorded in the conversion records, however as the rifle is an XL that doesn't surprise me, there is also an XL in the Pattern Rooms which is absent from the conversion list.

    Cheers,
    Simon.
