    Winchester TH Code

Anyone know the significance of the " 7" stamped in front of the trigger guard? Thanks!

Inspector's stamp. If we had thousands of unaltered "known original" Winchesters. There might be a serial number range discovered for each of the inspector's stamps on the trigger housing.

It is likely a partial "A"

Mine has a W and C on the side and an A on the bottom.

my "C" looks more like a "O" with an "A" and "W" too.

No, it's definitely a 7. Very distinct and deep.

    Yep.... That's a 7
I have a 5,5 with the housing stamped T on the bottom
Also have 5,8 with housing stamped 12 on the bottom
Both Type III housings, 5,5 housing original to carbine, couldn't say about the 5,8.

My first thought would be much like Bubba's, a Inspectors stamp.
But thoughts of a possible Shift or particular milling station number/letter creeps in now and then.

    FWIW,

I believe my TH is also a Type III. However, not original to the carbine so I have no idea what the sn would have been.

    Thanks for your insight guys!
