Why do half the Underwoods look zinc parked and half look maganise parked ? Did they have two lines running , just used what they could get , or was there a time cutoff ?

Most of all the Underwoods that I have seen are ZINC. Maybe post war rebuilds are MAGANISE?

Reciever Underwood 2,358,XXX
Recoil plate type 3 .U.
Flip site S left side .U. leaf
Flat blued bolt .U., type 1 firing pin .U., extractor.U.
Barrel Underwood dated 10 - 49, type 1 band no mark, milled front site .U.
Slide E - 279 .U., early blued slide stop pin

Straight Hammer in the white WU, hammer plunger blued, 26 1/2 coil hammer spring

My carbine is only 638 after yours , but it's T is in a circle , and the finish is a much darker black color.

Your T is stamped in the middle of the flaming bomb Underwood applied to their receivers.

...your right , I can see the flames on a closer look.
I guess it could have been refinished , the guy I bought it from has had it for 20-30 years , but he did buy it from the one who bought it from the DCM. The hammer , sear, hammer spring guide , main spring guide, firing pin , and the pins for the front sight , sear, hammer, and triggerguard are blued or in the white ( hammer) . In bright sunlight , the finish has that deep down old look , but that could be from the 50s or 60s just as well as from the '40s. Just seems strange that most of the spare parts , slides and front sights and stuff , have the same finish .
