American Military SMG Semi Auto Thoughts?
Evening, everyone.
I have a pretty well complete collection of US Military firearms. However, it's missing something. A submachine gun. Er, well, a semi auto version
The Reising Model 50 is somewhat affordable and maybe that'll happen one day. But for now, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience with semi-auto versions of US Military submachine guns.
I know they make the Thompson but it doesn't do a whole lot for me. Any other reproductions out there?
The Reising model 60 would be a fun project - acquire the tax stamp to SBR it with a model 50 barrel - but yowza, those are quite pricey too.
Anyone here ever build a semi-auto Reising? Just a tube receiver like all the Stens and such, right?

I'd do a Thompson, nothing else compares. You could try an M3A1...?

They are certainly easier to find than any of the other options. Shame someone doesn't make the Reising. Seems like it would be a great addition for folks like Inland Manufacturing or Auto Ordnance.

Personally, I wouldn't want one for anything, just a personal thing. I carried a rifle for years and all the trapping of the issue weapons and the Rising is just another mistake that came to flesh... They might work well enough in civilian life...still a classic for the collection, would be something else...anything almost. Yes, a Thompson M1 can be expensive but you won't wear it out on civilian ranges...

I never really cared for the ergonomics of them. Granted, I was shooting the semi auto versions and really trying to get down on the sights. Maybe I should give it another chance. I’ll find a range here that I can rent one at.

There were semi-auto M3A1 "Grease Guns" made by Valkerie Arms as well as the M60 H&R Reising. I've had a couple of M50's and have to agree with Jim that they don't compare to the M1/M1A1 TSMG. They run just as fast and are hard to hold on to in F/A fire. The weight and balance of the M1A1 is perfect once you know how to use it.

It would probably have the same manuf/QC problems of their existing offerings.

To be fair, he did say semi only...so it would plunk away, it's just that the gunners on the range would want to go over and p*ss on a Reising but they'd all admire a Thompson...
Problems with the semi Thompsons that are already out there is they aren't a real Thompson, Brian will know what I mean. Once you've worked with the real thing enough you can't accept the copy. If I was doing it, and in the US, I'd pay the tax stamp and get a real M1 and get to work...

I would love a real Thompson but that's wayyyy out of my price range. Even if I had the spare $20K, I would have trouble dropping it on one gun - and I'm very good at spending money haha.
