44US magazine ID
I own a 44US and a Mossburg 140-B. The 140 seems to be a sporting version of the 44US action.
One messy thing has lead to another, and I have ended up with just one magazine between the two rifles. The mag fits both rifles.Attachment 91042
When I look on-line to buy a mag, I see ones like I have for the 44US and I see similar mags with some sort of knob on the bottom of the mag.
My question: does anyone know the difference between the knobed and knob-free magazine? Do you think the magazine I have now likely came with the 44 or the 140?
Thanks,
Roy

I dont know if this helps but this is a magazine for a mossberg 44b target rifle I have
the knob is a threaded pin for allowing only 1 round to be loaded into the mag.
or by removing you can fill the mag.

Hey,
Thanks. That sure sounds more like a target/trainer magazine than one designed as a sporter.

The 44US rifle, correct, magazine has no pin. The 44US correct mag is held together with rectangle solid pins. Reproduction mags are held together with roll pins and they also have the 22 short adaptor pin that goes into the bottom of the mag. The pin keeps the 22 shorts from backing up when the rifle is fired.

Think the difference is 44US versus other 44 variations?

Roy I purchased my mag from Havlin Sales and went to the site and it says the mag is for the 42,43,44b and 44us and comes with the short adapter.
Thanks to bob for clearing up my oversight. I can however load one LR round into the mag with the pin installed.

Yes, Havlin has said they have a mag for my rifle...I am sure it is the one you have.
At this juncture, I am still interested in what the original magazine was like.

Magazines for the 44US series and the 140 are two different animals. They have similar shapes and will fit the other rifle but the locking system is totally different. The lock on the 44US mag is on the mag itself and the 140 lock is part of the action. The mag you pictured is for the 140 and the one that Jonzie posted is for the 44Us series.

Side by side top is 44US series bottom is 140
Hope this helps
