Question on Born Dates
I see everyone wants a born on date. Are these listed in a book I have not read yet or is it by compounding info from several sources?

Manufacture dates are compiled by using several different sources of information. Data compiled by individual(on different boards),The Carbine Club and published sources can sometimes put you within a few weeks of a carbine being completed and boxed ready for shipment. It`s like prepping for an exam in school!

I'm up early this morning and probably just cranky, but why do people refer to guns as "born"? Was your car born? How about your refridgerator? Or your lawnmower?
Is there something wrong with the word "made"? My dog was born; some even say I was born..but thats still in question. Don't get me wrong; I love my carbines and 1911's a lot, and like to know when they were manufactured....or made. Don't think they had a mother or father tho.

One of the definitions of born is “brought into existence or created” so the term is applicable to inanimate objects such as cars, home appliances and even carbines.

Still haven`t seen the term brought up in some of the ordnance letters that you find in War Baby or some of the other sources of information.
